The 2017 Alabama Classic will be the first ever state championship kayak fishing tournament!
On October 21st, we’re hosting the first ever state championship kayak fishing tournament on the Coosa River in Wetumpka. Ten anglers from each of the major clubs and trails in Alabama will qualify for the Championship Division with a chance to be crowned the Alabama State Champion. But it’s not just about that, we’re also here for a good time. That’s why everyone is welcome to join the Open Division and just fish for fun. The Open Division won’t have a chance at the title, but those folks are guaranteed to have a blast! Register today!
That’s up to 60 anglers just in the Championship Division! The Championship Division will be allowed to put their boats in the water at first safe light just below Jordan Dam. To give those contenders a chance to fish on through a ways, the Open Division will get to sleep in a little bit before they’re allowed to launch. Festivities at the free campground at Coosa Outdoor Center will take place the night before and following the day of fishing. More details will be posted as they are finalized.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Coosa Riverkeeper, a river conservation non-profit with a mission to protect, restore and promote the Coosa River. A representative from the Coosa Canoe & Kayak Fishing Tournament will serve as Tournament Director and judge all entries in the Championship Division.
